That’s What He Said

This is not amnesty. This is not immunity. This is not a path to citizenship. It’s not a permanent fix. This is a temporary, stopgap measure that lets us focus our resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, patriotic young people. It is the right thing to do.

-President Obama on his plan to stop deporting the children of illegal immigrants who have grown up in the U.S., so long as they came to the States under the age of 16, are under currently under 30, have stayed out of trouble, and have attended school or served in the military.

Bravo, Mr. President!!! I have never understood a country that would deny legal residence to someone who has served or is serving in our military. Much less people who were raised here and are pursuing an education. I’m first generation American. I’m glad my folks came here. Why should we treat these young people any differently? Now, Congress, get your act together and give these people and all others who see our country as a land of oportunity, a path to ciizenship! We need our immigrants to keep us fresh and honest!!!

  2. “This is not a path to citizenship.” So we are not going to send them away, but we aren’t going to provide means for them to become legal participants in the system. Aka let them stay and provide cheap labor under the table, but don’t give them any rights. That sounds a lot like creating a sub-class of Americans. Let’s make it easier to become an American, sure. We have no right to deny a chance at a better life to someone (who doesn’t have a criminal record etc) because of their race or nationality or socio-economic status, but let’s NOT look the other way while well-meaning people enter our country so THAT we can abuse them. I tried to give him a chance, but Obama has done horrible things for the lower classes and minorities. Removing the block grants for welfare hurts lower class people. Cutting the private school voucher system in DC (because he can choose to send his kids to a private school instead of public in a city with 50% high school drop out rate) hurts lower classes and the minorities of DC. And turning a blind eye to illegal immigration hurts those immigrating (legally and illegally) and it hurts our chances at a country where all races are on equal footing.

    k. rant done.
